The Potato Project: Learning About the Significance of Where Food Comes From!
Once again, Vimy Earthkeepers took a trip up to Thistle Ha' Farm to plant potatoes in June. Mr. Miller, our farmer expert cares for the crops through the summer. This past September, the Earthkeepers harvested them. They cleaned, peeled and cooked the taters as a special potato breakfast for the Breakfast Club. Mr. Miller was our guest of honour. This year he even brought an artifact that he found on his property - an ancient cutting tool likely from local First Nations.
The Potato Project teaches students to appreciate food and understand that behind each meal, there is a story of hard work and determination. Students learn that food does not come from the grocery store, it comes from farms, from the ground, from the sweat and effort of our farmers. This June, come join the Potato Project and enjoy some farming fun!
